My daughter Rachael was diagnosed with syringomyelia by Dr Curran back in 2004 (she was 13 at the time). After surgery by Doctor Mallucci, she has progressed brilliantly and has just passed her first set of exams at Winstanley College, without the surgery I dont think she would have progressed as she has and am extremely grateful to Dr Curran, Dr Mallucci and the nurses who all were kind, caring and cannot thank them enough,Rachael is hoping to become a physiotherapist and without AlderHey staff I dont think this could have been possible. Many many thanks Pam and Rachael Porter

On the 26th of october last year, my son Harvey was transfered from the Isle of Man to the Intensive Care Unit, he was only 3 weeks old. It was the worst time in me, and all Harvey's families lives and having to be so far away from home wasnt easy either. The love and care they gave my son to control his conditions (tuberous sclerosis and uncontrolable epilepsy) was amazing as the team at our local hospital just couldnt give out little baby the special care he needed. After a stay on ICU and in the Neuro Medical unit, 5 weeks later we got to take out little baby boy home. Since then he has been diagnosed with 2 more condiditons (west syndrome & wolff-parkinson-white syndrome) while attending apointments with his neurologist (Dr Curran) and with his care and expertise Harvey is doing extremely well. Thankyou to all the doctors and nurses who looked after my precious boy.

I am the grandmother (Nanna) of an eleven year old little girl named Layla Pitt.

Layla was admitted to the hospital in the early hours of the 06/08/2008 having collapsed whilst on holiday in Wales with what transpired to be a fatal aneurism. Our precious girl died later that day in arms of her Mummy and Daddy, surrounded by the rest of her family.

I cannot begin to tell anyone how completely devastated we all are as Layla was treasured by us all. My daughter (Layla's Mummy), and her husband (Layla's Daddy), are completely heartbroken.

However amongst our grief and sadness we have been privileged to receive the most amazing support and kindness from the hospital staff.

From the moment Layla arrived at the hospital the care and attention that she received from every single member of staff was truly wonderful. The kindness and support that was, and continues to be given to my daughter, her husband and ourselves is faultless.

I cannot begin to express my gratitude to all those at the hospital who have done everything in their power to help us cope with our tragic loss.

The staff without exception, are unique in their compassion, and are very very special.

In the fullness of time I will ensure that I convey my thanks to all of you personally. But in the meantime, please accept my deep, deep thanks for all that you have done, and never underestimate the help that you provide to both the families of patients that recover, and to the families of those who do not.

First of all we would like to thank Dr Ian Peart for taking such great care of our beautiful little boy Joseph from the day he was born. We would also like to thank Mr Pozzi and Mr Corno and their surgical teams as you have given Joseph the most precious gift anyone could give, you saved his life and without you we would not have our beautiful and very mischevious little 5 year old with us today. A special thanks to the staff on ICU, also Erica, Rebecca, Magella, Lisa, Nia and the rest of the girls on K2. You are all truly very special people and all the thanks in the world could never express how grateful we are and will always be. xxx

As I sit here watching my lively and somewhat mischievious 14monthold son I can't help but think back to the first few weeks of his life when things really couldn't have been so different. He was born with a congenital heart defect and was whisked away from our local hospital in Bangor, North Wales to Alder Hey at just two days old to have what was to be life-saving surgery by the wonderful Mr Alfonso and Mr Pozzi. To this day I cannot thank them enough for their care of my son Jac and it's thanks to them that I have my wonderful son here with me today. The staff on PICU, HDU and K2 are all fantastic and I'd like to thank each and every one of them.

Thankyou all again, Ceri

Hi all! I would like to express my deepest thanks and gratitude to all you wonderful people at Alderhey for simply giving me the gift of life. I have never been able to personally thank the Doctor(s) that saved my life all those years ago in the 60s. But I am eternally grateful also to my G.P. at the time, Dr Gammon, for his responsible decision to rush me to Alderhey (with only hours to spare)for the life-saving operation at only 16 days of age. I was apparently born with the rare condition of a strangulated hernia which caused all manner of internal complications which your skilful medical team had to sort out with time very much against them.
The ensuing operation meant that it could go either way-Life or death! Lucky for me it went the positive way and I'm now alive to tell the tale.
As a reminder of just how close I was to the brink of death, for many years my mother had a christening certificate issued by the hospital chaplain, which regrettably was lost or mislaid. The name printed on it was David Thompson (A name one of the chaplaincy nurses had called me in the event of things not going to plan. The Christian name being the choice of the nurses and the surname from my mother's maiden name. My father and her were not married at the time and so it was the name she was registered under).
I owe my life to all you Alderhey miracle workers, and I will forever be proud to represent your name to everyone in my worldwide travels as a professional singer/musician. What a team of exceptionally dedicated and talented people you are. God Bless You All! JimmyX.

I just wanted to send my annual thanks to Dr David Casson and the rest of the Gastroenterology team for helping me through the roughest 5 years of my life. Also to Mr Colin Baillie and Mr Shiban Ahmed for saving and changing my life for the better at very short notice :-)
It has been two years today since I had my Ileostomy reversed! I have had no relapse for 3 and a half years, giving me the chance to finally get on with my life.
I am off to university in September and am able to do the things I once thought were impossible.
Thank you also to all of the staff on HDU, E3 K3 M3 and at the Ronald McDonald house, for the wonderful care and support my family and I received during my admissions. A special thanks goes to sister Maureen on K3 and Sara from HDU for making me feel human again after my first operation :-)
Thank you again to everyone :-) you people are amazing. Keep up the hard work.
All my love.
Jenny Shimmin. xxx

1943 I was admitted with bovine T.B. right ankle, discharged 1945.I am compiling the family history, (at present my life). I remember very well my stay at Alder Hey, and the day my mother and her sister took me home. Adjusting to the outside world was difficult, due to the time in our history. But contrary to advise I have worn high heels all my life and still do and danced the night away, all thanks to Alder Hey and the dedicated surgeons and nursing staff under the difficult conditions at that time. Thanks Alder Hey. Marjie Carlisle

Alder Hey saved my daughters life. There are so many staff to thank. Paige is now 12, and was 8years old when she was first admitted and diagnosed with a brain tumour. Thankyou to all the fabulous staff on M3, ICU, HDU, The radiographers at MRI, and staff in Pharmacy, Mr Newman and staff, The audiology team, all the fabulous playleaders, Click Seargeant social workers, all the hard working staff on the oncology ward and day care, the jobs they do and things they see, takes an amazing person to work there, and make such a difference. Biggest Thanks go to Connor Mallucci - Brain surgeon, Dr Barry Pizer - Consultant Oncologist, Dr Thorpe - Consultant Radiographer and the phenomenal Macmillan Nurses Phred and Jo. Without all of you, where would we be now. Also thanks to the cleaners, not only did they constantly clean up sick, they always had a smile for us too. Paige doesn't dread hospital, she looks forward every couple of months to catching up with you all, her new friends. BIG thanks x x

I would like to thank all the staff who were on the Burns Unit back in July 1982 for looking after me, after a house fire almost took my life. You do a fantastic job, and not a day goes by without me being grateful to you all. I realise that its unlikely that there will be any of the same staff there now, but the message is still the same. Thanks to you all for all that you do for the children who need you.
Thanks,
Lee
