Hi,
I work in the Pharmacy
Department. At the pharmacy we get your medicine ready for you,
whether you are staying in Alder Hey, are going home after staying
here, have attended a clinic or have been seen in our Accident and
Emergency Department.
A lot of people work
in Alder Hey Pharmacy Department such as pharmacist, technicians
and assistants. We also have a medicine information service just
in case your own doctor needs to talk to us about your treatment.
We dispense (get ready)
hundreds of medicines each day including:
- Putting tablets and
liquids into bottles
- Making creams and
ointments
- Making the medicine
itself.
We also label the bottles
and tubs label correctly. We know that everyone is different and
to make sure our patients are taking the right amount of medicine
we double check every dose and make sure that it is exactly right
for our patients.
Making medicine is a
bit like baking a cake because involves a recipe sheet and mixing
all of the ingredients together. Some of our patients are too little
to take tablets so we will make medicine for them.
If you visit the Pharmacy
Department, we are always happy to explain to you what your medicines
are for and how to take them.
