Consultation begins on plans to build an iconic gateway for children’s healthcare in Merseyside
Alder Hey has taken a step closer to achieving its unique vision of creating a Children’s Health Park for the children, young people and communities of Merseyside and beyond and which will be the first of its kind in the UK.
The Joint Health and Wellbeing Overview and Scrutiny Committee last week gave the green light to Liverpool PCT’s application to take the scheme to public consultation which will run until 27th July 2009.
The Children’s Health Park is part of Liverpool PCT’s vision for ‘A New Health Service for Liverpool’ and Alder Hey presents a compelling case for change which includes building a new hospital and providing more health services closer to home. The consultation aims to engage and involve as many people as possible through a number of public meetings, involvement events and on-line. Literature including response forms will also be available in GP surgeries, dentists and libraries across Merseyside.
Chief Executive of Liverpool PCT Derek Campbell said “Our joint aim is to deliver real and lasting improvements to the health of and healthcare provided for the people of Merseyside. This is a major milestone for Alder Hey and for Liverpool and we are pleased to be able to progress to consultation and share our plans with all those involved with Alder Hey and the wider community. This is an incredible opportunity for the city of Liverpool and I urge all Merseysiders to make their voices heard so this long-awaited project receives the widest possible support”
Alder Hey’s Chief Executive Louise Shepherd adds “The Children’s Health Park is a great news story for Merseyside and the Northwest. It will be major infrastructure project delivering an iconic gateway for children’s health in Merseyside.
“We are heartened by the high level of public support for this project and the desire to see it progress quickly. As well as the significant, long-term public health benefits for children in Merseyside, the project is seen as a significant catalyst to reinvigorating the Merseyside economy through major capital investment.”
Through public consultation children, young people, parents, carers, members of the public will be asked to consider two options: A Children’s Health Park or a Multi Stage Re-development.
