October 2012
Alder Hey Hospital will be celebrating the past, present and future at its Annual Members’ Meeting and Open Day on Saturday 3 rd November 2012.
Alder Hey has an exciting future ahead with plans to open the new Alder Hey in the Park in 2015 as well as preparing to celebrate its centenary in 2014. Visitors are invited to bring along their own photos of the hospital and share their memories of past experiences at Alder Hey.
From 11am till 3pm, the day will be packed with fun and educational activities including face painting, storytelling, football workshops and a magician. Merseyside Fire Brigade will be taking their famous pink fire engine to the event while Merseyside Police will be bringing along some of their horses and dogs to join in the fun.
There’s also a chance to learn more about epilepsy surgery at Alder Hey and see how it is changing children’s lives. The day will include a special presentation about epilepsy by Consultant Neurosurgeon Sasha Burn.
Chief Executive of Alder Hey, Louise Shepherd, said that the members’ day will be a great opportunity to celebrate the hospital’s achievements over the past year. She said: “The day will be a great chance for everybody to come together to celebrate the success of the hospital. There is so much on offer for both children and adults. We were delighted with the success of the event in 2011 and are hoping for the same support from our members’, staff and the general public for this year.
“Our hospital will be 100 years old in 2014 and we are already thinking about the best way to celebrate this as well as our exciting plans for our new Alder Hey in the Park. So many people in Liverpool and across the North West have been treated here, visited others or worked here in that time. We would love to hear from anyone who has memories to share, find out what they think of our plans for the future of Alder Hey and hear what they think of our new hospital.”
Everyone is welcome to join in the fun! Free car parking and refreshments are also available on the day. For more details visit www.alderhey.nhs.uk or follow Twitter @alderheykids
