Don't Forget Your Teddy!

Alder Hey’s Annual Members' Meeting and Open Day will be taking place on Sunday 16th October 2011 between 11am and 3pm.
All are welcome to come along and join in the fun in celebration of the hospital’s achievements of the past year. Activities include behind the scene tours, interactive demonstrations, face painting, magician, football workshops, a treasure hunt and much more. Younger guests are also asked to bring along their teddy bear to Ward N1 for their own 'Well Teddy' check up. Visitors will also be able to tuck into free burgers, sausages and fruit kebabs from 12pm onwards.
From 11am-12pm, there will be a formal presentation where Sir David Henshaw (Chair) and Louise Shepherd (Chief Executive) will discuss the highlights from last year. Sue Lorimer (Director of Finance) will present the Trust’s Annual Accounts for 2010/11before the Report of the Council of Governors is presented by Professor Murray Dalziel, Lead Governor.
Former Chair, Angela Jones OBE, DL will also be honoured at the meeting with a
new role as Alder Hey’s Honorary Past Chair. Angela stepped down as Chair in November 2010, bringing to an end a decade of inspirational guidance and leadership. Angela’s new role will allow her to continue to work alongside Alder Hey as an ambassador as the hospital moves forward into its new Children’s Health Park.
There will also be a special presentation by Professor Michael Beresford, Professor in Child Health, about 'Making a difference: Improving our Care and Understanding of Childhood Lupus'. Alder Hey celebrated becoming the UK’s first Centre of Excellence for Childhood Lupus in October 2010. Childhood Lupus is a severe disease where the body’s immune system reacts to its own cells, causing auto-antibodies to be produced and resulting in inflammation and damage to many organs of the body. There is no cure and despite advances in treatment, the damage to organs can be severe and occasionally life threatening.
There is no need to RSVP so come along and join in the fun – we hope to see you there!
