Alder Hey Welcomes Back Former Chair to New Role

Angela Jones, OBE DL was honoured at this year’s Annual Members Meeting as Alder Hey’s first Honorary Past Chair.

Alder Hey speaks at the Annual Members' DayAngela stepped down as Chair of Alder Hey in October last year, bringing to an end a decade of inspirational guidance and leadership. From her appointment back in 2001, Angela was relentless in her quest to promote Alder Hey’s reputation in providing world class health care. During her time at Alder Hey she restored public confidence in Liverpool’s famous children’s hospital and rebuilt relationships with the community, while also supporting staff in building back their pride in working in the organisation.

Following all her hard work and commitment during her ten year tenure, it was an incredibly sad day for Alder Hey when the time came for Angela to leave. As Honorary Past Chair, she will continue to be an ambassador for Alder Hey by promoting the work of the hospital and the new Children’s Health Park.

Sir David Henshaw and Angela Jones OBE, DLAngela was honoured during a formal presentation at the Annual Member’s Meeting by new Chair Sir David Henshaw (pictured right). Sir David commented: “Angela has been inspirational, she connected with everyone and it has been an absolute privilege stepping into her shoes. The Trust couldn’t let her go! We needed her expertise, commitment and dedication and so decided to offer her a new, important role as Honorary Past Chair. We were delighted that she very graciously accepted”.

After accepting her award, Angela said: “This means so much to me as Alder Hey will always have a special place in my heart. It’s thanks to the fantastic team-leading and amazing staff that we are in the top eight trusts in the UK”.

Referring to the new Children’s Health Park she said “It’s an exciting time for Alder Hey at the moment which makes me all the more proud to be part of it. David is doing a fantastic job and I can’t think of a better person to lead the way into the future.”

She also joked: “As a good scouser I am always talking about and promoting Alder Hey. I have continued to talk the talk for Alder Hey and now I have been given the chance again to walk the walk!”
