Sir David Henshaw - Chair
Sir David Henshaw became Chair of Alder Hey in February 2011.
Prior to his role at Alder Hey, Sir David was Chair of NHS North West for four years. Amongst his many achievements, he was responsible for the review of the child support system in the UK in 2007. He was also involved in the Prime Ministers Delivery Unit Capability Review programme of central government departments.
Alongside his valuable experience within the health arena, Sir David has worked in local government for most of his career. He spent ten years at Knowsley Borough Council before spending seven years as Chief Executive of Liverpool City Council. Today Merseyside residents see and are enjoying the benefits from many of the regeneration initiatives his team brought to the region, including securing the award of Capital of Culture.
Sir David was born and grew up in Liverpool with a lifelong commitment to public service for the city and region. His outstanding track record in the public sector of delivering the highest quality of services and major capital developments will be pivotal in ensuring that Alder Hey achieves its vision in delivering the new Children's Health Park in 2015.
Alongside his role at Alder Hey, Sir David is also a Non Executive Director for a number of other public and private organisations including the Chair of Manchester Academy for Health Sciences and Non Executive Director for Albany Investment PLC.

Louise Shepherd MBA MA CPFA – Chief Executive
Louise joined Alder Hey on 10th March 2008 from Liverpool Women’s NHS Trust where as Chief Executive she led it to Foundation Trust status, the first in Merseyside. Formerly deputy Chief Executive and finance Director at the Countess of Chester NHS Trust for five and a half years Louise first joined the health service in 1993 as Director of business development at Birmingham Heartlands and Solihull
NHS Trust.

Professor Ian Lewis – Medical Director

Professor Ian Lewis joined Alder Hey as Medical Director in March 2011. This is a return journey for Professor Lewis as he worked at Alder Hey during his Registrar rotations (1978-1985). He has been a Consultant Paediatric Oncologist in Leeds since 1985.
Professor Lewis has undertaken a number of senior management and leadership roles including Deputy medical Director, children's Services and Obstetrics (1998-2004) with a secondment to the SHA as Associate Medical Director (Children's Strategy 2004-2006). he has a number of National roles and responsibilities including being a Member of the DH Payment by Results, Clinical Advisory Group. He is a member of the National Clinical Advisory Team, advising on and chairing several complex organizational and service reconfigurations.
Ian remains active in clinical research, particularly clinical trials and health services research and he has a national and international reputation within paediatric and adolescent oncology. he is currently leading a European Work Package aimed at developing an expert Teenage and Young Adult Oncology network throughout Europe and continues to advise on service developments in the USA, Canada and Australia. Externally, Professor Lewis is a trustee of three charities related to his work.

Gill Core – Director of Nursing
Gill joined Alder Hey as Director of Nursing in July 2012. Gill became a nurse in 1981 and spent a number of years in clinical roles in Intensive Care and Surgical specialities. Since her first managerial role as Head of Quality in Norfolk in the 90’s she has gained increasing experience in quality improvement and nursing leadership. She joins Alder Hey following seven years in two previous Director of Nursing roles, at Liverpool Women’s and most recently at St Helens and Knowsley, the latter where she gained experience in leading the nursing workforce in transition from an old Victorian hospital into a brand new hospital.
Gill has maintained and developed strong education links and currently participates in delivering the MSc in leadership development at Edge Hill University. Along with a variety of clinical qualifications she has an MA and post graduate teaching certificate.
Erica Saunders – Director of Corporate Affairs
Erica joined the Alder Hey team in September 2010 as Director of Corporate Affairs. Erica was born and raised in

David Alexander – Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development
David joined Alder Hey in August 2012 as Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development. Prior to joining the Trust David was HR Director at Thomas Cook Airlines based at Manchester Airport. David had been with the Thomas Cook Organisation for eight years and was responsible for all aspects of Human Resources in the Airline including Industrial Relations, Learning and Development and Organisational Development.
David’s earlier HR Career covered Transport and Logistics, Building Services Engineering and Food Manufacturing. David’s HR Career has always contained a significant element of Change Management. David is a Zoology Graduate and holds a post-graduate certificate in HR Management.
Sue Lorimer – Director of Finance and Commissioning
Sue joined Alder Hey on 2nd February 2009 as Director of Finance and
Commissioning and is a member of the Association of Chartered Management Accountants. Sue came to Alder Hey from Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust and has held a number of finance director roles within the NHS including six years at Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology and two years at

Judith Adams – Chief Operating Officer

Jude joined Alder Hey as Chief Operating Officer in March 2011 and has over 25 years working in the health service. Jude trained as a nurse and has clinical experience working in Specialist and University Teaching Trusts both inside and outside of London as well as overseas. She moved into healthcare management in 2002 when she applied through the DH for a national advisory role in the Heart Choice programme and worked with the Picker Institute in evaluating patient choice.
Jude has held a senior post at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen NHS Trust as Divisional Nurse Director for Surgical Services and later becoming Divisional General Manager for this Division. Previous to her role at Alder Hey, Jude was the Director of Operations and Programme Director at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust where she lead the Trust on a £48m Cost Improvement Plan over three years, as well as leading significant transformation across a number of clinical services.

Susan Sellers – Senior Independent Director 
Susan was born in Liverpool and following a 5 year short service commission in the Women’s Royal Air Force, has held a number of management positions in both the public and private sectors. She previously spent 12 years in the NHS, firstly as a non-executive director of South Cheshire Health Authority followed by seven years as Chairman of the Countess of Chester Hospital.
Steve Igoe - Non Executive Director 
Steve is the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Resources) of
He has advised the Government on the regulation of the Higher education sector and is an adviser to the HEFCE Board on leadership, governance and management within the University Sector.
Steve has been a Governor of a large acute NHS trust, a trustee of a charity specialising in respiratory education and an executive and founding director of a substantial IT network company.

Phil Huggon – Non Executive Director 
Philip has a portfolio of non executive and trustee roles in the private and public sector, with a particular focus on marketing and business development. He has 10 years board director experience including NHS Manchester Primary Care Trust and is currently a board director with the Business Continuity Institute, Sports Leaders UK and chair of RCU, an education consultancy. His background is mostly marketing, strategy and change management gained from 20 years experience with Shell and before that, with MARS and BP, both in the

Ian Quinlan - Non Executive Director
Ian QuinIan was born and bred in Yorkshire and began his career as an auditor with Ernst and Whinney (now Ernst and Young) in 1982, becoming the youngest partner in the firm at that time. In 1988 he became Group Finance Director of the Albert Fisher Group Plc, a leading global processor and distributor. His achievements during this time included building the company’s business in the USA to a value of
From 2009 to the present time, Ian has held senior positions with VPS Holdings Limited, the most profitable and fastest growing void property services company in the world. Between 2009 and the beginning of 2011 he was Group Chief Executive, during which time he increased the value of the business from $30m to £150m. In January this year he took on the role of Deputy Chairman with responsibility for company strategy, business development and acquisitions.

Asif Hamid – Non Executive Director
Asif was appointed as one of Alder Hey's NED's in 2012 and has been at the cutting edge of the call centre industry for the past fifteen years, in roles ranging from sales and marketing director; operations manager and head of UK operations for some of the world’s leading outsourcing organisations including Bertelsmann, Asif is one of the best known entrepreneurs in his field.
Asif is also heavily involved in supporting, growing and attracting investment into the region through his role as Deputy Chair of the Liverpool LEP. Asif has been instrumental in Wirral being regarded as one of the leading areas for employment and business growth in the country, something recognised this year by The Contact Company appearing in The Times top 100 growing business’ of 2012.
